General TR Wire wheel sale pricing

Does anyone know if Moss has a certain time of year/sale when they put their chrome wire wheels on sale (they currently offer 15% and wondering if I can do better)? Or is there another good supplier? Also looking for the square TR3 front hub adapters that have the cone shaped portion that goes in where the bearings are.

They do have sales on occasion, but I don't know that anyone but someone at Moss can say if they will have a better deal on Chrome WWs this year. Check out Little British Car Co. lbcarco.com they are a Moss reseller, and give an additional discount over Moss prices, even sale prices, and will even but an English biscuit in your package. Same stuff as Moss sells, they get it from Moss, just they offer an additional discount, they usually have cheaper shipping too, at least on small packages. Just use the Moss part number when ordering.

A true, and informative story if you end up dealing with them, I talked to one guy I know from my club who said he didn't like dealing with them because "you couldn't ever get hold of them" I said I got responses immediately from the guy, often even late at night, turns out my friend was calling and I was emailing, it is very much an electronic based business, and email works better as the communication method with Jeff the owner.

I can't speak to LBC, but I did buy my Wire wheels from Moss. I had been watching for a year and a half, and never found them cheaper than the 15 percent off sale. And if you are getting 5 wheels, and 4 adapters, shipping is free. (orders more than $700.00 always get free shipping.) I love the wheels by the way. Been using them for about 20 months now, tires are mounted tubeless, and they have been great.

Marv, Actually I am working on a Daimler SP250 which has mostly TR3 front suspension so I don't really know what year TR3 (or what production numbers) it would be. The Daimler is a '62 so around that time frame. Below are some pics of my current hub adapters (which have a cone portion going in to where the wheel bearings are) but I notice that the teeth are pointed and I don't want to ruin a new set of wheels....

Chileman, Thanks...thats what I needed to know. They are currently having the 15% sale so I will compare Moss and LBC

Thanks. I think the chrome wheels make the car. You might call MOSS about the hub adapters you have. I bought 4 new, and they weren't square like that, but the splines (teeth) may have been pointed. Beautiful restoration work on that suspension BTW.

TR2 and early TR3 had square hubs. Not sure if that's what's on your car though.

J - your front hubs are different. I have some sq ones that came off of a TR2 but they have steel buttons where your's have mounting bolts. Afraid you will have to find another SP250. One way is go ahead a put the disk wheel hub from a TR3/4 and then use the std wire wheel adapter. You would then have the chose to run mags later if you want. Frame looks great!

Marvin, Thanks for the heads up...but what are "steel buttons" can you post a pic or point me to a clear catalog that shows what you are referring to? Thanks, Josh

Here is a picture of a front hub for a TR2/early TR3. The steel buttons fit in the drum to hold the drum in place. This one is brand new with all the old protective sealant still covering it.

Josh, I have the one left I can sell but don't think its what you want. Like Dan said, right ones are hard to find. I do have a complete TR2/3 wire wheel setup with all four hubs I would sell, includes the whole diff and front drums but only as a set.

I bought mine for my AH from XK Unlimited including mounted tires and balanced. The price was less than MOSS.

Here's a thought...The wires seem to last forever, except for the splines. Has anyone attempted hard chroming a set of hubs and wheels to see if it prevents the gradual impact wear on the splines?

Well...guess that's a resounding no!

I'll let everyone know how hard chroming works, then.

Re hard chroming.... For me, I drive my collectors very little (a few thousand miles a year would be a lot) and given that wires and hubs (primarily hubs) have a life expectancy of 80k + miles they should last me 40 or so years....so I'll let my kids worry about the cost of replacement....' Cause I'll be just over 90. Also, both wheels and hubs would have to be hardened. We see the wear and tear on the hubs because it is easier, but there is matching wear on the wheel splines as well. I think it would be difficult to harden chromed wheels (painted may be easier).
