TR2/3/3A Hood Stick Cover Installation

Gentlemen:

I sent this email to Moss, but thought I would post a modified version here as well just in case their response is slow:

I recently purchased a TR3B. With the car came a brand new Moss Motors hood stick cover (P/N 644-240), still in the bag. I have looked this over and tried to fit it but cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to use these on the car. I was hoping that they might have an online instruction sheet I can access.

Please let me know.

I have never seen instructions. I do remember seeing it installed on a car, so I had a picture in my head when we installed ours. Does anyone live close to you that you can see it in person?

Jerry: I'm in Spring Hill, TN in that alerts anyone.

Don: So, it's mounted on the inside and then is folded up and over to the outside. The frame basically folds into it?

Thanks for the photos.

Pretty much. When the sticks are folded, they make a small elbow at the front. There is a pocket in the cover at each end that goes around the elbows. Then there should be a lift-a-dot peg on the inside of the cars rub rail, and a snap all alone on one edge of the cover. The dot snap goes under the sticks and snaps on the peg. If your car has never had a stick cover, the peg may not be in the car...but don't worry, the cover will stay in place without it, by just tucking it under the sticks, from the inside towards the outside.

If you made it this far, the cover just wraps around the sticks and snaps on the dot pegs on the outside of the rub rail.

I put a piece of velcro on my stick cover to keep it "tucked in". I found the wind was constantly pulling the bottom out.

Yeah. it's those upside down & backwards LTDs that keep this from being anything near intuitive. Here's a couple more looks:

I add a piece of foam on each side sections and a rolled towel along the back edge to make the end result look suitably plump & presentable.

Thanks, guys. I'll say this: I'd never have figured this out on my own.

I'll also say this: It's a bit of a disappointment that I never received a reply from Moss. Without the BCF I'd still be totally in the dark.

Hi Geo, is there just one LTD peg on each inside corner as shown on your Photo 3? Or is there another peg or snap within the cockpit as well? I have all the pegs on the exterior already installed.

Thanks. Great posts.

Pat - Just two Lift-A-Dot pegs, one inside each rear corner. The snaps for those two pegs have to be inserted as shown above - ie facing reversed compared to all the outer snaps.

Yes, just the two. A close look at the photo and the printing on the female LTD will show its orientation. Looking at the material in that shot you can also see that the LTD is mounted on the inside of the cover for that fitting.

Really a pretty ingenious approach that, with the pockets at the front, does the job well. One other thing I did was stick a rolled up hand towel along the bows to add some volume and make the rear portion of the cover look smoother.

I just received a Moss stick cover and was very confused by the backwards fasteners on the inside cover. This post, although a few years old, is perfect and tells me exactly what I need to know for installing the cover. Thanks!
