TR6 Fuel tank to line compression fitting

Heya Guys-

Chased a fuel leak to the compression fitting (tank to line).

Currently it looks like a brake line nut with brass ferrule--and the whole thing was covered in teflon tape and monkey snot.

Q: Is this a standard (hardware store) nut and ferrule? As I said, the current nut looks like a brake line fitting, and the ferrule doesn't 'look right' trying to sit on the nut. I'd really like to do this job just once.

It's been a while, but I seem to recall that it is a "type A' ferrule where the taper end would go against the tank fitting and the straight section would bite into to the tube as the nut is tightened against into the fuel tank. With the deformation of the taper as it is pressed against the seat in the tank and the other end of the ferrule biting into the tube, you get your seal.

You might find a suitable ferrule at a hardware store, but I think you would be better off going to a place that specializes in hydraulic fittings such as Royal Brass and Hose. I don't think that they have any locations in MN, but if you look at their website, you will get an idea of the kind of place to go, then find something similar in your area.

The nut is another story, assuming that you have the stock nut, I would reuse it. If not, I would suggest rounding up one of the stock nuts for this. The thread is 1/2-20, the tube is a -5 (5/16" OD) with either an .028" or .035" wall, don't recall which . Here's a link to TRF's "Blue Catalog, Plate AP" for these cars showing the items in question.
