hello ,

I have a question regarding the exact location of a few steering column components on my 1960 TR3A, Com.#71xxx.
It is a split column .

I have attached photos of the items. My email is " spitfire77@comcast.net "

Thanks, RJ

Parts one and two look like they are for a TR6 maybe the felt also. One of the felt pads may be for the end of the shaft on the TR3. Part 11 looks like the support that runs from the battery box to the bottom of the dash.

Part 4 is a support that runs from a frame extension mounting bolt (with a spacer so the support clears the side of the frame extension) up to one of the mounting bolts for the steering box.

Not a very good photo, but you can see part of it in this shot

Part 5 looks to be the support that runs from the bottom edge of the dash back to the end of the pinch "bolt" for the uppermost column clamp. That's the "bolt" where the other end attaches to the brace between the dash & battery box (your part 11 I believe). Sorry, I don't have a photo of it.

Parts 7, 8 and 9 I don't believe are part of TR3A steering. (Looking at the TRF web site, I think they might be for TR250/TR6 https://trf.zeni.net/TR6-TR250GB/114.php?s_wt=1540&s_ht=963 ) On a TR3A, the only felt is the bushing at the uppermost end, and it is usually supplied in a trapezoid shape (ends cut at 60 degree angle) rather than rectangular.

The two rings in item 10 I believe would only be for an earlier TR3 with the solid column. They go inside, between the shaft and outer housing; but I'm fairly certain they were not used (and would serve no purpose) in the split column.

Part 1 might be one of the two support bushings, that go immediately above and below the "split". (The same bushing is used in the TR6 steering column.) Part 2 I don't recognize, though.

Regarding part 11: Make a note for future reference. The brace can be mounted either way, but
the large slotted hole goes on the dash side; Its purpose is a pass-thru hole for the speedo trip reset
on certain model speedos.. Also, you should have 2 of them. Orientation on the one that goes on the
passenger side of the battery box doesn't matter.

Part 6 may be from a TR4 steering column -- looks like the bit just above the slip joint. Can't be positive as I have never seen that part loose & by itself.

RJ -- That's an interesting collection you've got there.

I will add a few comments as well. Being a TR4 guy (TR4 thru 6 use the same steering column) as well as a TR3 guy. I believe that 1 is for a TR4-6 while 2 is likely for a TR3 split column. Item 6 is NOT from a TR4-6 . Items 7-9 I do believe are from a TR4-6 at least two of the three are. The other items have been identified correctly. I might note that getting the pieces that go under the dash in the proper arrangement is most difficult without seeing what it looks like when finished.

I disagree a bit with Charley - I think Item 6 is from a TR4-6 column, its as Geo says - looks like it came from the kit TRF sells.

Being somewhat curious, I fiddled a bit with Geo's photo. Looks like the piece is a kind of thrust spacer, between the end of the upper column and the first flex joint.

The piece that fits on the TR4-6 fits over the end of the column and piece number 6 has flanges on both sides and will not fit over the end. Otherwise it does look similar it does not function the same.

Ah, I see what you are talking about - but I think its a camera trick - that bottom piece I'm betting is the nylon washer that comes with it too, not a 2nd flange.
