Penny's bodywork begins

Got an email yesterday from the body shop; they've started in on the bodywork. Currently filling holes and prepping the car for the blaster. Current (rough) estimate is end of April for the bodywork and paint to be completed, but as we all know it will take as long as it needs to take.

Still, exciting to see some progress. I'm going to try and make it down to the shop in a couple days to get some more pictures. These came from the shop owner.

Looking good Drew! It reminds me that I need to find out how mine is coming along. Are you having sandblasted?

We are going to blast it once the holes are filled in. The car will be going on a rotisserie soon to make that all easier.

Bit more progress. Holes are filled and the rotisserie is ready to go. Hopefully will be off to the blasters shortly.

Turned upside down made me pause. Dang that would be an awesome profile for a sports car.
The grill even looks great upside down.
Frogeyes just look great from ANY angle.

That they do.

looks like the shop is give your Bugeye proper attention

They're taking good care of me. Winter's a busy time for them (lots of accident repair) but they're making progress as they can. Were very upfront about the timeline, no complaints at all so far.

Looking good Drew. I will be interested to see the pictures after blasting.

Me too, though my wallet may think differently. Still, I'm glad we'll be able to make a good evaluation of the car's condition so we can get it all fixed right the first time.

Thanks. I'm prepared for the scorch marks on my wallet. Still worth it, though.

Stopped by the shop yesterday, suspension is all off and the shell is ready for the blasters. Should be heading there next week, then we'll see what else needs to be done before painting.

Only one bolt was frozen (not bad, really). I'll need to source a new upper control arm for the rear suspension, likely not salvageable given what will be necessary to get it removed.

Off to the blasters!

Moving right along, will be interesting to see what the blasting uncovers. Hopefully it's just what we already know (rear quarters). Still, we'll know one way or another shortly.

Back from the blasters, all is revealed. Pretty pleased, really. Didn't show anything I didn't already know. The A-pillars look great, no issues. Rear quarters have been patched in the past, and will need to be done again. Fender beading isn't great, but is in better shape than it looked prior.

Penny goes on the rotisserie in the next few days, then they'll attend to the metal work and we'll be ready for paint.

Drew, looks like a good foundation to start with! I hope you plan to have the car epoxied after all the metal work is done? I would go as far as having all the seams sealed with 3M’s seam sealer too.

She's up on the rotisserie now. I've ordered the necessary patch panels, once they come in the shop will be able to finish up the metal work. Should be able to make it down there later this week to do a final confirmation on the metal work, and I'll be able to chat with them about paint and seam sealing.

Getting excited, we're getting closer. End of May is likely at this point for all of the bodywork and paint to be done.

Stopped by the shop today and took a look at the car. They've started removing some of the beading, grinding it off as best as they can without pulling the main pieces apart. Looks good. I've got new beading on order, plus new quarter panels (which are on backorder for a couple weeks).
