I got my car out of storage and was taking the front wheel off and the knock off was really hard to get off I had to hit it 20 to30 times to get it loose. the knock offs and wheels were new last year. When i got the knock off free this black powder was on the threads. is this common

If you put grease or better yet, anti-seize paste on the threads and splines each year they will remove easily and last a lot longer.

Wally, Johns response is true.However, I would recommend Coppa Slip on the threads and splines.This is one of the best anti seize compounds I have found. It is available from British Wire Wheel.--FWIW---Keoke

I have used anti-seize on my TR's splines, threads, and the nose taper of the wheels for years. It makes a big difference. I also use anti-seize on the threads of regular wheel studs. I had an entire rim stick to a brake drum while living in NY and have used anti-seize ever since.

thanks for the info but i still do not understand what the black powder was. There was about a table spoon and was black like grafite

Well Wally some of the old timers did put "grafite" in grease to treat the splines.Grease may have just dried up.---Keoke
