Yea I'm headed up to the healey drive in southern Maine this weekend. Should drive it though the Boston tunnels again!

I do love the quiet corner of Connecticut for driving the healey around, so many nice roads.

Nothing sounds better than a big 6 Healey and this one sounds GREAT ! Sounds like you have a V-8 stuck in there - love it !

I don't know Rick, he might give you a run for your money against your Nasty Boy ! Got side exhaust similar to Eskimo on my 100M but sure doesn't sound that throaty - guess it's missing 2 cylinders !

Hey as long as I make it the whole trip I'll feel like a winner already. Might have to shove an ear plug in my left ear though, or bring some for the kids!

I had a friend several years ago who had a side exhaust on his '66 3000. Sounded great. He also told me that after a few years his left ear was ringing. He was expereincing the first stages of Hearing loss. Something to think about. I also wear a C.I., cochlear implant in my left ear because a Hearing Aid would no longer work(military service connected disability).

I have side exhaust on mine too, and I put an earplug in my left ear whenever I'll be driving for a while. I lost enough hearing in the Navy.

Thanks for the words of wisdom guys, I'll grab a few ear plugs today. Need to find some that aren't orange though, I had a police officer tell me to take them out when I was driving a very loud car on the highway.

Amazon sells Dewalt Ear Plugs which are black and yellow.

I put elbows on the '61 3000 back in 1973, perhaps because I didn't want to pay for replacing one of the crimped tail pipes. I also soon discovered that the exhaust outlets were about three feet from my ear, and i found myself stuffing tissue in my ears in one cross-Ohio trip. At a certain speed, the drone was really obnoxious. I don't blame that for my hearing loss, though, as I was also a shooter.

I had a Stebro system on my '62 Tri-Carb back in the 1980's. It was loud, but not bothersome to me. A good friend, who would occasionally drive my BT7, complained that the sound hurt his ears, and I thought that I may be damaging my ears as well. I wound up cutting the side exhausts, and attaching stock tailpipes. Still have the Healey, but now have Falcon stainless steel system. If I remember correctly, baffles were available to insert into the side exhausts, for street use.

I did this to my 100 some years back both because I thought it would be a cool thing to do and to increase ground clearance at rear. After a couple of years I tired of the sound and went back to the original configuration. I too have hearing loss though in both ears, probably due to spending too much time in the ER of diesel-powered boats.

That sounds great! You need to find a long tunnel to drive through. Bought my bugeye in Danielson 36 years ago (yikes!) when we were living in Pomfret.

Small world. I was born/raised in Putnam.

The what?!! :cryin:

Here's a pic my father took in 1958. A meeting of the newly formed Eastern Connecticut Sports Car Club in Putnam.

I went out on the track in a qualifying race without my earplugs once. I knew something was different during the heat of the battle, but didn't figure it out until arriving back to the paddock and couldn't hear anything my crew was saying. The sound of the race kept going in my head all afternoon. I now place my plugs on my balaclavas next to helmet every time after making a run.

Is that a Stebro system, and if so, where did you get it? I had alot of difficulty dealing with the Canadian importer for a faulty unit that he never took back.

Does sound nice, but what does it sound like inside with the soft top up? I have a stock system and it drives me nuts with the top up on a long drive.
