Not much for 'vettes either but that is abominable IMO. When that car was made they were all hand lay-up GFRP. Not growing on trees and certainly should never have been cobbled up with "modern" running gear. Rather, take it back to as near original as humanly possible.

BeaveRun, Rick?!? My ancestral stompin' grounds is a couple miles away from there. I was a Koppel kid in my yout.

Change it or not I think depends on what you have to start with. Could be it was a partial remains of a car rebuilt onto modern running gear rather than scrapped due to broken/damaged/missing bits. When starting with something fairly rare and complete, then I like to see it go back to stock, or near stock with period type modifications. But, in the end it was that guy's money and car to do with what he will.

I agree it should have gone to someone who cared more. At first I was horrified at the junkyard turbo build with only a re ring and a cam and then I read this. (still not sure about his cam choice but I haven't looked into it yet).

That is information I DO NOT need to know !!!! I am currently happy where I am JP. CURSES !!!

(PS not real sure about his trans choice either, 5.61 first gear, for what?)

Yinz sure must miss the winters and all that nice snow. My son was at Pitt when Chrysler offered the SRT Track Experience at Beaver Run, so we both partook. A really nice track and they let us loose with a Magnum SRT wagon, the aforementioned pick-up, a Crossfire, and best of all ... an SRT Viper. Woo Hoo! My mom was born in the area, either in Versailles or Edna Mines No. 2 (three guesses on my grandfather's occupation)

This is how BaT described it: "Built up from an engineless basketcase," I figure at that point it's just fun.

But, but... the engines were Blue Streak sixes, truck mills built out for a bit more output. How "unavaliable" could those things be?

I'll go out on a limb here and say there's pro'lly at least one of those engines within a ten mile radius of every member of the forum.

And yeah, I'm a curmudgeon where it comes to modding rare examples.

Winter of '78 was the final straw. Left Sewickley for Tampa as soon as we could. Took until 1980..

BTW: There's a Primanti Bros. in Plantation/Sunrise, FL now. The in-laws are down there, so when visiting we get a bit of da 'burgh in the form of GOOD FOOD.
