MGB-GT Next Project 1967 GT

Been far too long since I've had a project. Thankfully this one should be fairly easy as the nasty hard dirty work was done. The car is very strait and not a bit of rust. Not sure when it was last on the road but judging by the cracking sounds the tires made as it was pushed down the driveway I'm sure Reagan or Carter was in office.

Nice find, Stewart! The longer I have my GT, the better I like it!

Does look like you have an easy project. Have a color combination in mind yet?

That's great, Stew! There are times I wish we had a GT, the '67 is the last of the good ones, too, IMHO.

I'd put it together as close to box stock as possible. But I'm a traditionalist. :smirk:

Plans are to finish it off in red with a black leather with red piping seats. Not sure yet on what's going to happen with the engine but the trans will be swapped out for one with od. Wire wheels will be swapped out for 15" alloy knock offs but not the usual ones.

That looks like a really nice, clean project.

I've been tempted by a GT on a number of occasions.

VTO's new alloy knock off should be available by later fall, and then there's always the bolt on wheel conversion using the same rear end housing, which is much less money than dealing with the splined hubs, and knock off wheels.

So far I've rebuilt the carbs, replaced the exhaust from the manifold back with a TT, refreshed the distributor, mounted the coil and fixed a miss wired ignition, flushed out the block, new t stat housing and stat, changed the oil filter to an inverted spin on, painted the radiator, installed a new fuel sender and a bunch of other little things. Still need to fix an air leak on the fuel pump and the tach doesn't seem to work.

Car was non op'd in 1986 and most likely hasn't been run judging by the state of the ignition.

Hey Stewart, I watched you video above and when done there is a group of other Youtube videos that pops up. The one with the rear differential repair in particular caught my eye because I had watched it before. Did you do that video as well? If so I have a few questions for you.

The other video's are what ever youtube recommends and are not mine.

Yesterday I took it for a quick spin

Sent it on it's way to the body shop this morning and the work has begun.

Funny how quickly a car can get to that point. Got to do something similar with my Bugeye's in the near future I think.

Going to keep the red or go with a different color?

It's going to be sprayed tartan red as it came from the factory that way. The red in the engine bay is pretty far off so it's going to be stripped and repainted.

Looks too "orangey" on my screen. Had that '67 GT I mentioned earlier and it was Tartan Red. Black leather with red piping. Great car... up until one night when the engine grenaded on the Mass 'pike at 2200hrs.

I'm now committed to having the fender mouldings deleted and the shop found a bit of rust in the door.

Stewart,

Looks good! I have a '67 GT also.Fun car to drive,
& seems to handle well.
I also have a TT exhaust on mine,but I feel that it's
a little on the loud side going down the highway.
When you're done, drive it up here.

Body shop is moving right along. The dpo did a quick and dirty repair to the dog look but the rest of the car is looking good so far.

I took the head engine today and confirmed it's been rebuilt at least once in the past. The water jacket is pretty rusty and all of the ports to the head were blocked. I'm glad I didn't run it to long. The head looks pretty good and might just need a good cleaning however the intake on 4 looks like it's hit something at some point in its past. The engine has been bored out to 40 over and it looks like the job has some miles on it. Not much crosshatching visible and it looks like a bit of rust pitting has formed over the years.

Just about have the engine stripped down and just need to pull the front and rear main caps. Crank is 10/10 and most of the bearings looked great however #4 rod bearing was down to copper. More importantly the wheels finally came in :D

thanks for posting pictures of the engine as you go through. for me it take time after time of seeing things to familiarize myself with them and something like the intricacies of that motor may take a me watching a few people go through it before i feel comfortable. Looking god sir :eagerness:
