Wedge Now TR7's clutch is stuck!!!

I finally bit the bullet, and purchased Tony Rhodes' great TR7 Stromberg carb mounts (man they're beautiful!!!) And for the first time in 8 months, my TR7 actually started and idled!!!

I went to put it in reverse and BUZZZZZZZZZZZ. No clutch.

I finally had it towed down to my friends' shop. At least I was able to start it in gear and get it out on the street. I thought about driving it in gear with no clutch down to the shop (4 miles,) but the fear of something else happening caused me to just call AAA.

Probably is the clutch slave cylinder. Easy enough to fix if that is what it turns out to be.

Sammyb, if it turns out not to be a master or slave problem, it's just stuck to the flywheel. Put it in gear and start it up on a good long straight-away and just keep it in gear with the clutch engaged, after about fifty feet you will hear a big bang and that should solve the problem. Wayne

That's what my friends thought, and that's what they suggested. I tried it, and got nothing, but I can't remember if my foot was on the clutch or not. I'm hoping that will solve the problem (no fee! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) Just as long as I don't have to pay to drop the tranny!!!

Those carb mounts sure are grand aren't they. No more idle problems! Good luck with the clutch, your getting there!

The guy who gets them made is Tony Rhodes, and he's a heck of a nice guy. A true TR enthusiast who came up with a better mousetrap...the guys at Moss and Vicky Brit have not given him the time of day, but I assure you that these things are a permanent and very elegant solution to the dreaded rubber mounts.

Thanks Sam, they look like the real deal. I was hoping to get the 7 out of storage today, but the stupid snow changed those plans. Next weekend I hope...

I will keep the information and probably send an order in late spring, as I don't know the condition of mine until I get it back.

The clutch on my TR4 has stuck in the past after letting it sit for a while. I've always been unable to break it free simply by having my wife sit in the car with the clutch pedal depressed (and the car in gear) while I rock the car back and forth.

Worst case if it is really really stuck solid is to raise the back end with your floor jack, put it in a forward gear, start & rev the engine, double check you're in a forward gear, push in the clutch and have the wifey drop the jack. Be sure to have some open road in front of you.

Had to do this on the TR3A after it sat for a year. Sounds worse than it is and most importantly it worked.

It's fixed. My buddy got in the car and just romped on it around the parking lot, and then BOOM, it let go.

So I drove it for the first time since August or so, and it runs well, but the thermostat I put in isn't opening. Time to put the old one back in!
