I'm visiting from the Triumph forum. A friend of mine has just acquired a nice 60's XKE and has been having difficulty bleeding the brakes. The master cylinder has been replaced and the standard bleeding process has been done. Pedal is still spongy. The car had been sitting for quite some time with Synthetic brake fluid having been used. Wasn't there something about water being trapped in lines when synthetic fluid is used? Any opinions?

I had some difficulty bleeding mine after brake work that drained the system. I think it was the dual-braking system that was defeating me as I needed one half of the system working before the other half could be bled.
In the end I fabbed up a power bleeder that applied air pressure to the system using a cap (from some jar) that fit the reservoir caps. Pumped air into each reservoir at about 18# and let it bleed. That did it - firm pedal restored.
