Still putting my '60 Sprite back together. The wiring is finished so I bought a battery yesterday. Thought I would try to turn the engine over. When I pulled the starter I expected to hear a starter sound...Nope! Got sparks and then some flame where the battery cable connects to the starter. All ended well, but clearly I have something connected wrong! Here's the way it is connected: positive terminal of battery is connected to the ground cable which is connected to the firewall. The negative terminal is connected to one pole of an engine cutoff switch. The other pole of the switch is then connected to the starter. Help, please.....
