Owner says it's a 1275 from a '74 Midget.
Can you tell from this view?

Based on the cylinder head (1316 -air injected), I would say yes, 1275.

Rick,
It looks correct, right color, correct dizzy, temp gauge in head, etc.

Gerard, can you elaborate a bit?
What are the specific signs that show you what it is - especially "1316 -air injected"?

The biggest giveaway is the thermostat/water outlet. It has the ear on it for the air injection pump. Further, that outlet will only fit in that orientation on the air injection head (12G 1316) as the early heads, including the 12G 940, I believe, have the studs drilled in slightly different positions. There are some other casting differences, but they are not really visible in this photo. There are other clues, but this is the only one that makes it a reliable conclusion.

Ok thanks Gerard.
He says there's a tag on the head and will send me a pic of it.
This is on an island not too far from me but I'd like to get all the info possible before going to the trouble to go see it.

In case anyone is wondering, this and my rust free RWA shell would become one car if I were to get it.
This is the project for my son Peter's 16th birthday (only two years away now).

The ear for the air pump, air rail, thermostat, heater valve and missing horn on the air filter all exactly match my 1972 1275.
I cant imagine what else it could be, definitely an A series and later than a 1098

Say hi to Peter, he's a lucky and great kid.

Thanks Phil, I'll do that.
BTW Peter's in his first year of high school now and he is doing really well, straight A's in everything except PE.
Our school started computer science courses this year, just in time for him. According to the teachers he's one of the best and they actually ask him to help the other students along.
Now to get him back outside turning some wrenches, that should keep him occupied enough to stay out of trouble!
I think it will be worth everything it costs - if nothing else just to have another LBC nut in the family!

Motivation, Motivation, that's what these kids need. Strictly motivation.

I agree, with everything said, it looks the part, always the easiest way to ID a 1275, is they have no lifter covers. It really wouldn't matter if the the engine was earlier than a 74, unless you had to be smog complient, but appear to be a 12G1316 cylinder, everything on 1275 interchanges thru the entire prodcution run as for a inline/RWD motors. If it a 74, it may have the roller bearing pilot bushing and thats Ok too.

He sent along the engine tag numbers, he said it reads: "12CJ/DA/H 40507".
Here is a fuzzy partial image, don't know why he didn't try to get that better.

Hopefully driving it home tomorrow, this will be fun!

Anyone have a top to lend or sell cheap?

I have one you could have for the cost of shipping, but it's been folded up and boxed so long, I have no idea if it would still fit. (shrunken?)

That car will certainly put you and Peter on the right track to building a nice Midget. Have fun and be careful driving that thing home.

Thanks Trevor, It just so perfectly meets all our needs that I had to get it.
Also I was able to negotiate a trade for some things I rarely ever use so it's only going to cost me the new title and registration fees.
The drive home might be a little cold, hopefully the heater works.

Made it home, very cold ride today in ice fog.
Rad hose blew, taped it and loosened the plug and made it the rest of the way home.
Now it's snug in the shop.
Pics to follow.
