No, the regulators are not the same. The shaft lengths, where the window crank goes, are different.

If you would like to call me tomorrow (905-854-3555), I can tell you exactly which is longer, I just don't have the information on me right now. But I believe the longer shaft is on the BJ8.

Thank you Frameman,

What is the length of the BJ7 and the BJ8 window winder shafts?
Why would the shafts have different lenghts?
I thought the only difference between the BJ7 vs BJ8 was the door panel.
The BJ7 having a small pocket area for maps.

Always good to ask questions.

The door panel center, where the crank is mounted, is set IN the center opening on the BJ7 and set OUT on the BJ8.

Hi,

Here are the lengths :
BJ7 Shaft is 1 1/2"
BJ8 Shaft is 2 1/2"

The BJ7 Shaft is not long enough to reach the BJ8 door panel.

The BJ7 door panel is recessed in the door hence the difference. The bracket for the window crank is closer to the outer door skin than the BJ8 making the clearance different. The longer shaft won't be able to clear it.

Thanks Patrick. Is that a rubber O-ring? My stem does not having anything like that on it. Maybe that's why my gas mileage sucks.

Thank you Frameman for taking the time to measure those. I'm sure down the road when this topic comes up again, you'll be the one we thank...again.

I also increased my HP by 50% by changing the distributor mechanical advance springs too.

Interesting. Patrick shows his BJ8 to be about 2"
Patrick, did that come off one of the mid year BJ7-BJ8 cars, being the shaft length is between 1 1/2" - 2 1/2" ?...lol

Seriously, am I missing the o-ring? What is it's purpose?
The O-ring makes a snug fit for the window crank and stem to keep them from rattling(like we really can tell a rattle in a Healey?). They really do work! Let me know of you need to know the correct size to buy?

I really think the measurement is where a person takes his measurement from. I did it the easy way because I didn't think you wanted to dismantle the unit to get the overall size. I hope where I took it from is good enough.
I think my car is midyear if you consider that new cars come out in the Fall and mine was built in March '67. VIN-40928
