BN4 Longbridge interior

Hello

I'm on the final steps of restoring my BN4. It's an Abingdon built car with the early Longbridge interior.

Now I'm looking for information about the way the rear inner panel and the rear wheel arches were trimmed with vinyl. Does anyone have detailed pictures of these areas? Which parts were trimmed and how?

Regards from Switzerland

Thank you but I already searched the whole world wide web for suitable pictures, including Derek's site. There always is the top bow or the back seat in the way.

This picture from Derek's site appears to display what you have discribed. My '57 Longbridge interior looks just like this in these areas.

I know Derek's picture, but it doesn't show all areas. I would be interested in parts left of this picture and would like to know where vinyl overlaps other vinyl and where exactly metal is covered.

Found a picture of a restoration. Can anyone check if this is the original way to cover with vinyl?

Hi Christian
the two pieces of AHead are: one rectangular piece sewed on one side, that overlaps the piece glued on the side of the Wheel Arch, the point of the overlap is the bracket where the rear trim panel is fit, with the chromed screw- photo are correct
but I have some doubt on the consistence of the vinyl pieces
-my opinion is that original vinil was more heavy or that insulation material was glued underside

Christian - I think I might have what you need. photos of original Longbridge interior. without the top frame in the way. However, we were hit by Hurricane Sandy here in eastern PA and had no power since Monday evening until this morning at 3AM.
send me your request to:
BN4_2porthead@hotmail.com.
I should be able to respond by early next week.
I hope that fits into your timeline?
jim :driving:

note: Heritage Trim did a very nice job of recreating the interior, still to be installed. But that is a different story for another day

If you get the chance could you post the pics for us all to see. If you don't have the capabilities yet then maybe Christian could post them for us. I also am getting to that point for interior on the longbridge and more pictures for reference is always welcome. Another alternative is you could email them to me and I will post them if you give permission.

Andrea,

as I began with my restoration there still was some vinyl glued to the back inner panel of the car. This for sure was original. There was nothing under the vinyl but painted metal. Vinyl was about 0.3 - 0.4mm thick.

But I'm nut sure if this is true for the wheelarches too.

Regards
Christian

Hi Christian
Thanks- the thickness is approximately that of AHead kit
Longbridge cars have vinyl in back panel-- and I suppose
that same solution was applied also to wheel arches
my doubts are based on photos from Derek and Johnny
where they appeared soft- https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/0j0KgxzIazhj7GzrVsLQDtMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink
https://picasaweb.google.com/11277081986...feat=directlink
this is the interiors rear trim on my car at arrival from N Carolina sure NOT original
Cheers

The vinyl removed from our Longbridge was also un-padded in the rear areas (wheel arches included). I am certain no one ever removed it prior to me. If needed I can measure its thickness also, I still have it all.

Hi Jim
I am convinced that there are only the Vinyl on the rear arches.
The Vinyl from AHead kit are good quality but very thin 0.4 mm
I have also some Vinyl (that have cotton cloth underside) that are about 1 mm thick
So Jim if is possible, measure it-thanks in advance
Cheers

Andrea and all,
I measured the original vinyl tonight and it is about .030" thick or about .75mm. I think I stand corrected about the wheel arches though. I have with the vinyl pieces some very thin jute padding (about like a heavy felt) that is cut to the shape of the wheel arches and has the corresponding holes in them. I still believe these vinyl pieces were original so that would mean the padding on the wheel arches are original as well. The back panel was definitely unpadded.

Very useful indications-
here detailed photos of the rear wheel arch panel (that is not available from usual suppliers) added by Gergo and that is confirmed by the photos of Derek (note the fastner screw)-and back panel cover

Note the sewing line, under the bracket this is correct for me, Gergo line is immediately over the bracket, Jim can you confirm? your old pieces can have the cut in right position !

Yes I checked and the sewing line is under the bracket as others have stated.
