another big question there is a ground tab on the firewall next to the battery? i do not see any connection coming from the harness to connect this to.

Sorry, can't help with the ground tab for a 73 TR6. But it would be nice if you could mention in your post or subject what car you are working on. Contrary to popular opinion, they aren't all the same :smile:

well sort of. There should be either a threaded hole or a capture (?) nut to put a bolt thru

The TR6 does have a ground wire to the passenger side of the battery. There is a double black wire female quick slide connector coming off the harness that goes to the starter. If you don't see it, look at the interior side of the firewall to see if it wasn't pulled through.
