Fitting Harnesses

I need to fit a couple of 4 point harnesses to my BJ8 so that I can take part in some historic demonstration(not timed)hill climbs.
I can't decide on the best location points for the two rear anchorage points. I would like to leave the rear seats in situ if possible.Anyone who has had experience and or any suggestions would be very welcome.
Thanks in advance.

The existing anchorage points are on the rear side panel, one at each side, for fitting a lap and diagonal 3 point belt.
For a four point harness I need an additional two anchorage points per seat equidistant each side of the midline of the seat. Either on the floor panel behind the front seats, the upright panel in front of the rear seats (where the tonneau cover fastens down when open) or on the rear panel behind the rear seats. The existing mountings for the lap strap of the harness are fine.
Thanks, Andy

Mounting the harnesses to the floor is a no-no; high risk of compressing your spine in a front-end collision (I was recently raked over the coals on Bimmerforums... see: https://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1812125).

Several links to good information in the posts near the bottom of the first page (2 pages total, so not too bad).

Without looking at a car, and going strictly from memory, I'd say you'd want to pick a point on the rear bulkhead, as high up as possible.

Since that's just a thin layer of sheetmetal, you'll definitely have to use a back-up plate on the trunk side of the bulkhead.

Scroth makes some excellent (2") 4-point belt assemblies that are DOT approved for street use; they're what the customer supplied in the white Coupe in the above link.

Thanks for the link Randy. All very useful stuff.Exactly what I was looking for. If I can't get the shoulder straps to mount on the rear panel giving the desired 90° to my back I will have a bar added to my roll bar and mount them on that. Thanks a million.

Andy,

I would think adding a harness bar to your roll bar would be the most desirable option. And if you're going to the bother of installing four-points, you may as well go for the anti-submarine belt as well for competition driving. The five-points are pretty popular with the Cobra kit-car crowd and your level of performance won't be much different.
