I'm thinking of adding a Voltmeter in the space above my steering column and want to know if anyone on the list, or otherwise, has done this before?
Thanks,

I have an amp meter and volt meter below the wood dash on the consul side in a dual drop down gauge panel. Also one on the opposite side that holds a clock. With the value of the wood dash I did not want to tamper with it. Also the position you speak about would be blocked by the steering wheel.

Would have to be a pretty shallow gauge, as there's not much room on the backside either:

Nice installation. How did you attach the gauge panels to the fascias? Do the two on the driver's side ever get in the way of your leg?

I'm only 5'10" so, no problem. I used double sided tape so the chrome didn't get scratched and the chrome screws that hold the chrome in place. They luckily lined up. Never thought I'd care much for a clock but I quickly loved it. The little round thing near the AMP meter is an head phone jack that I connected to the radio. Everything is period to the 60's except the Quartz clock (I couldn't find what I wanted). If I step out side the box and do modifications, they are all revealable.

Rich,
So, the clock, what's up with the face being installed a little off vertical.
Oh, wait, I get it. Racers will install the tach at an angle rather than straight up.
You have a racing clock...lol

Dude, nice job with the gauges and thanks for sharing all your mods.

My previous BJ-8 had one centered above the steering column.

It was that way when I bought it.

Sorry, don't have a pic.

I am making good prgress on this modification! Yesterday with a good friend, "Cottontop" who has a bench drill press, we successfuly drilled the two holes needed for the gauges. There was a little more to this than meets the eye and this is where you measure ten times and drill once. I used a spare dashboard for the test and installed all the gauges and hung it in place in my car with the center Heater/Switch section of the dash to check fit.

Everything looks great so far but I still need to see if any tweaking is needed over the upcoming weekend before my car goes to the Paint shop on Monday.

Note the "sweat", it was well over 100 degrees in Dallas yesterday. Talk about hobby dedication!

He does have an air-conditioned garage but this was a quick job and he wasn't working on his Healey that day.
At least we had some shade in the carport!!
