Wanted: 63-67 B

Hello all,

I decided to sell my TR4A and pick up an early MGB. I prefer the unibody feel and solid nature of the B.

I am looking for a 1963-1967 MGB. No projects, no GT's. Will travel for the right car. Pics pics pics! Would like something that hasn't been modified too much, except for things that are easily reversible.

Please message me if you know of one for sale!!!

Thanks!

Royal

Good luck with the hunt, Royal.

You might want to touch base with member Bob (bob67bgt). He's usually able to sniff them out.

Looks like a nice minor project for someone, I'm looking for something a bit more ready to go than that.

Nice car though!!

Good luck with your hunt. Clean MGBs are definitely out there, and they are a blast to drive. I wound up liking mine so much that I sold my Bugeye -- just didn't drive it much after the B arrived.

Totally agree! They made a half a million of 'em, gotta be one out there for me

I fell in love with the Michelotti styling of the TR4A, but the car is so weak. A B is a much more modern constructed car, in terms of it's unibody at least. My 79 is a real solid car, but I prefer the vintage charm of the 63-67, the lower suspension, and the dual carbs from the factory.

The B is such a great handling car for how long ago it was designed, and the solid axle is a nice feel too. The weak Triumph IRS is so wishy washy in the turns!

Royal,
66 MGB on the Athens GA craigs list. Looks like it may be a good deal. Speedwell (Mike H) on the Experience may be close enough to look at it. He is in business and may be able to do it for a reasonable fee.

Well, that green one with overdrive and wire wheels ended for $17,500 but the guy was apparently a scammer.

The seller emailed me and asked me if I wanted to buy the car and to make an offer higher than what my highest bid was.

I don't know. The guy only has 1 feedback. I did speak to him on the phone and I did recieve more pictures of what I requested but I just don't know.

My gut instinct is to just walk and keep looking.

Always trust the gut instinct -- not like MGBs are terribly rare after all. He could be fine, but unless you've got local access to the car and all the documentation it's not worth the risk.

$17500 for an MGB! It must have been gold plated and owned by John Wayne before I would ever come close to buying that one.

Yeah, it's not real money though - the guy ended up being a Scammer.

I don't see why I shouldn't be able to get a really REALLY nice car for no more than $12,000 and even I think that's pretty high.

I'd love to spend about $8,000 and throw an overdrive and be all said and done for $10,000 but who knows if that's a pipe dream or not.

I'm REALLY not up for a project as I've been there, done that...I want a nice car.

$10,000 should be very doable. I paid just under that for my 1970 RHD B earlier this year. It's got a few minor issues (crack of doom, bit of rust in the doors, small dings here and there) but is otherwise sound and unmolested with a working factory overdrive, original engine, and decent alloy wheels -- and these year UK cars still had the nice metal dash. Solid clean-driver category. Put a bunch of miles on it this year, will do a bunch more next year.

There's this one:

I've seen it, it's nice. They've had it a while....who knows, make an offer...worth a ride to the shop just to look at the inventory....

I actually have seen that car - it's very nice. I don't think I'll be able to pick it up for what I want to pay though.

Norb is a great guy. Been in business many years.

It has a non-OD box, which kills the deal for me, or if it was cheap enough where I could put it in there.
