Choke Cable Connection to Rod Assembly Fork

Can someone please confirm for me how the choke cable wire connects to the cable clamp pin which goes through the rod assembly fork on a TR3B. Specifically, is the nut on the inside or the outside? Mine is on the outside, however the Moss catalog shows the nut on the inside. I'm not sure which is correct or if it even matters. Thank you.

Re: Choke Cable Connection to Rod Assembly Fork

Thanks for the photo, George. Once again it appears as though the nut is on the inside of the cable clamp pin (cotter pin on the outside) which goes through the jet lever and the fork on the forward end of the jet control connecting rod (mixture control rod in photo). I'm going to change mine so it conforms with the photo and the Moss catalog. Also, does anyone know if both jet levers are supposed to be perfectly vertical when the choke is NOT engaged? My forward jet lever points maybe an inch toward the rear which would seem to imply that I'm always driving with a little bit of choke on and too rich a mixture. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Choke Cable Connection to Rod Assembly Fork

For some reason the front choke lever often points forward of vertical. It may have something to do with the fast idle cam geometry.

You can actually discard the horizontal link to the rear carby altogether.

The car will start perfectly well on just the front choke.

Then you don't have to put a foot on the dash to pull the choke out, and the cable will last longer before the knob breaks off. Probably helps the rear jet seals last a bit longer too.

I just looked up the average low temperature for Melbourne, and it's 50°F. No wonder you can start it with just one carb choked. :jester:

Sure Art, we don't have snow like NY, but I've had TR's up in the Alps where it gets down to 25 degrees F. Choking the front carby is just something I've found useful over 5 different 4 pot TR's.

Best regards,

Re: Choke Cable Connection to Rod Assembly Fork

Actually, I have no trouble pulling out the choke for with both carbs hooked up to it. Careful attention to detail will allow the choke jets to function without massive inputs of muscle on the choke cable. Also, Randall (TR3driver) suggests polishing the jets with toothpaste to make them slide easier. Apparently, replacement jets are not as smooth as originals. I did this, and it definitely helped.

So Viv, maybe after you brush your teeth in the morning, you should go out to the garage with that tube of toothpaste and polish up those jets!
