TR4/4A A/C in a TR4 or 4A

Has anyone done this? I want to investigate adding A/C to my TR4A with a Surrey Top / Hardtop. I can use all of the available parts for a TR6 in the interior. The problem is mounting the compressor. There is not a lot of space available at the right front ahead of the intake and above the Alternator. I'm thinking of driving it via the water pump using one of the dual belt pulleys from a TR6, maybe the whole pump if it will fit. No need to re-invent the wheel if someone has already done this. A search of the web turned up one hit from a site in the UK where the car was changed to a crank fire system, the alternator relocated to the left side of the engine and the compressor installed where the alternator was originally. I'd rather not go to all of that effort.
Thanks, yea I know you're asking why! Because I want to is my reason.

I had a TR4a years ago with A/C that I crashed while in college. I kept the a/c unit after I parted the car out. If you are interested I'll pull the unit out and send you pictures of what I have. If I remember correctly the inside unit was big and mounted in the pass side area. Would would be better with the TR6 interior unit. I know the engine mount for the compressor is sill stored in the shed. The unit did work years ago

Yes please I'd like to see some photos and even purchase the compressor mounting if you would consider selling it. Please send me a personal message at jerryvv at roadrunner dot com so that you can send photos. I'd like to know more. Any information about mounting and driving the compressor would be useful. I'm in the parts business so modern compressors in all shapes and sizes are available to me.
Thanks,
JVV

I've got some pics from the place in the UK. Looks complicated. You have to make your own mounts, etc.

I was wondering if a Moss MGB kit would work after converting to 3/8 in. pulleys. The alternator is mounted on top of the compressor. Maybe worth a try.

I'd love it if Moss would develop a kit but I guess there aren't nearly as many TR4/4A drivers as MGB drivers.

I would like to see both of those sets of pictures too. Something I have been thinking about for a while.
Jerry, are you thinking of using the kit from BritishAC.com? I think it is vintage air. I also found a site on ebay with an evaporator unit for $89. It is in Florida. I bought a compressor (sanden type) from them for the TR7 and it is working well so far. It was really cheap too....maybe it was the $89 thing..but the evaporator was cheap.

I could email the photos (too many to upload and post). They're from Clayton in the UK. Really nice system but pricey (after the Pound to Dollar conversion :nonod:) The underdash fitment is nice, unique and compact. It replaces the existing heater too.

Please send them to me. jerryvv at roardunner dot com
I'd appreciate seeing them, maybe what I have but at the time they didn't have a price for a compressor mounting kit, only under dash stuff.

Jerry, pics are on their way. Here's what I pulled from Clayton's site. Hopefully they won't mind the free advertising:

I pulled out what I had today of the TR4 A/C unit. Didn't take my camera with me so no pictures today. I can't figure out how the mounts go for the compressor. Will get back with you when I take pictures.

Don, No that's not what I'm looking for, I actually have that unit from a TR6 application and it will work well for the 4A as the interiors are the same. What I'm looking for is how to mount and drive the compressor under the hood. Thanks for what you posted however.

Aaron, I suspect you have the same photos that I have from those folks. Their installation is very nice but it involves moving a lot of parts around and going to a crank fire ignition system. More than what I want to do. There are some hints at how to mount the compressor however.

Marv, I'll look forward to getting your photos.
