TR4/4A Back on the road after 20 years 65 Tr4a

Drove it out of the garage last night after its been in storage for 3 years since I bought it, it was shipped to me sight unseen after sitting in a garage since the 80's.
need to bleed brakes and clutch system but am happy with how my fuel tank turned out using the Por 15 tank kit, I flushed the lines from front to rear with air and then a fuel pump with new gas till it was nice and clean.

After driving for a while it was warm and hard to start wich Is common for some people and I am wondering if It could use a heat shield to help with that?

Some people seem to have a problem that needs a heat shield but I have never encountered that and I often drive in 100+ temps. If hard to start when warm I would first examine all aspects of ignition and carbs tuning.

First of all - great news! Fantastic to have another one back on the road.

As Geo asked has she had a proper tune up and fuel/timing/ignition system dialed in?

@ TOC, This is #35 built of the TR4a, I searched a long time to find black with red interior, I forget, when is ABFM? is it still at the BCC?

I still need to check out the brakes and change all the fluids, just depends how much time I have between now and then/.

Good news is there are no fluid leaks, amazed.
although my notes from the previous owner who bought it in 1977 said the motor had a complete rebuild about 6000 miles ago.
one problem I have found is the exhaust manifold has a small crack right in the center of the V where it comes together, well exposed and am wondering if it can be welded?

My dilema is now deciding what to do about tires and wheels, it has the spoke wheels and 2 brand new ones from TRF in the box with new splines, I think I would need to purchase 2 more with splines although I should take them off and inspect but I know one on the back slipped when I first put it on and put the car in reverse, splines worn badly.
I might consider mini lite style wheels so I have better tires options.

My opinion, don't bother trying. It can be done, but it's a tricky, finicky process and takes a long time (making it expensive too). Every one that I've ever seen welded cracked again within a fairly short time of service. Just start looking for a used one.

In addition, they require a lot less maintenance than wires.

The TR4A I have awaiting resto has the same driving lights in the grill! I wonder how common a mod that was back in the day?

How they might look:

Those are the type that used the splined hub -- has the advantage of not requiring you to replace the studs with the longer steel wheel studs (possible but not trivial).

Congratulations! Hum, peace sign on a black 65 TR4A.
Both period correct and timeless.

If you have the manifold welded make sure the welder uses an arc welder and cast rod. Not a MIG. If you mig cast it will ALWAYS crack.

According to good old Wikipedia:

The internationally recognized symbol for peace was originally designed for the British nuclear disarmament movement by Gerald Holtom in 1958....The symbol is a combination of the semaphore signals for the letters "N" and "D," standing for "nuclear disarmament".

More, for those interested!

Geez 1958, I was 1. Not even that if it was summer time.
My brain wasn't fully functioning and to some, ...still not
