Moisture in Rocker cover

I have been fighting the noise in what I belive to be valve train so I keep pulling off my rocker cover. I don't drive the car much. very short trips.

I noticed a sludge begining to build on the inside of rocker cover only. My oil dip stick doesn't show any signs of water in the oil.

I use to have a VX Bug that would do the same thing.

Is this normal? My rocker cover vent is open

Sounds to me like that's exactly what it is. The top of the engine will collect the moisture gunk the most, because it is the last part to get hot enough to evaporate. It will normally accumulate more around and on the oil cap, and vent(s). The best way to avoid this is to make sure the car has the correct thermostat and gets up to operating temp when you take it out... This means more cruising and less short trips.... :driving:

Yep. Chocolate milk syndrome. I used to see this when I had my Midget in Washington state. Short trips, not enough time for the engine to rach operating temp.

Trips like that should get rid of it. Mine gets a little on the oil filler cap in the winter when I don't run it enough to get it good and warm.
