Okay, I need to start gathering some shop manuals for the new-to-me MGB. Recommendations? I've got the Haynes and factory ones for the Sprite and find myself using both. Should I do similar for the MGB? Any others I should look for?

I must not be a real man then -- I even read the owners manual for my new Honda, cover to cover. I *like* manuals and instructions.

You may LIKE them, but do you follow the instruction contained therein exactly?

That said, you need to specifiy the extremely rare (in the US) RHD manual for your B.

Otherwise, you'll get all discombobulated.

I do my best to follow the instructions as written -- helps that I generally don't have any idea of how to do something, so I don't have any previous misconceptions to overcome. :smile:

BTW, the RHD manual was a joke, son, just a joke.
My problem with factory manuals is the maintenance schedules contained therein.
Most of it is hogwash, if you have your car looked at periodically anyway.
"Check front suspension. Check steering. Check exhaust" etcetera, etcetera.
At specific intervals you get to PAY the dealer to "look".

In the shops I ran, we just DID that, just like we all do with our older cars.

Drew;

Get the Haynes manual and the Bentley manual.
BUT! You have to read them in the mirror for RHD!
Just kidding.
Actually if the car is still in Windsor till Monday or so, I have a couple of manuals I will put in it when I go down there.

Thanks, Dave! Car will be in Windsor early in the week at least, as we're still finishing up the paperwork for the shipping company.

And I thought I just needed to read the manuals upside down for the RHD... glad y'all are around to set me straight.

Glenn's is good, it is less detailed and more generic, but has great informaton about trouble shooting for the home mechanic driving an older car, vs. the factory manual written for mechanics working on near new cars.

Long out of print, still available on E-bay,l good companion to the other books.

Besides the aforementioned Haynes and Bentley manuals, the Autobook manuals are handy. They are smaller than a Haynes but reasonably complete and well written.

Autobook manuals are known for their vinyl-clad covers, which along with their small size makes them great for stowing in your car "just in case". Out-of-print now, but you can pick them up used at decent prices from eBay and the like.

Drew,

Buy a Chilton's manual - if you have a wood stove in the garage,
& need something to burn in it.
Almost worthess,unless you like looking at colorful graphs,etc.

I'll probably stick with the Haynes and factory (Bentley) -- I've had good luck with both with the Sprite.

Drew;
I sent one manual to Alan to put in the car.
I have another here, but it is a repeat of the first. No sense in giving you duplicate copies.
That car is in good enough condition that the manuals will only be for reading, at least for awhile.
Now all you need is the car, but it should arrive just in time for great weather.
Your toughest decision this spring will be, "Which Chariot to pilot"
ENJOY!!!!!!
