If you look at the web site, you will see that it is for sure going to destroy a Herald, the glass body for the Sammio is bonded to the frame of the Herald. Did you see the big strap holding the body to the frame while it cures?????
Interesting!

Looks really nice, like a vintage 50's or 60's sports racer. I think here in the US a Spitfire or a TR6 might make a better donor car. Heralds may be more common in the UK by over on this side of the pond they're a lot harder to come by. A Mazda Miata drive train would probably be an even better choice for the donor, although if you did go that route you may have to fab up a chassis for the car. I like the period egg crate grill.

I just noticed that they will sell a turn-key car starting at £5,500! Quick conversion and that's only $8,850. Not a bad price for a car that looks like that.

Craigslist I know that this might hurt. But this car is available locally here in Nor Cal.

So the question is, CAN a Spitfire or GT6 chassis/drivetrain be used instead? There are probably plenty of those around that are non-restorable.

Trouble with the Spitfire/GT6 chassis is that the wheelbase is 7.5" shorter and doesn't have the side outriggers that the Herald/Vitesse chassis does. Then there's the matter of using the Herald/Vitesse bulkhead, etc., etc.

I have to admit I'm a bit surprised after looking at their web site, where the example of a donor car is a relatively rare (even in the UK) and usually quite desirable Vitesse 3L MkII convertible! Doesn't seem too likely to me that anyone would sacrifice such a car for a kit such as this. Saloon (sedan) maybe, but not convertible....

I read in another forum that it's a bit of a pain. The guy said he'd shortened the car through the door/cockpit area. The Herald and Spitfire have similar chassis but they are different. The control arm thingy on the rear axle attach to the body on a Spit, where as they attach to the frame on the Herald. They also have a longer WB than the Spit. Heralds aren't that hard to come by. I know a guy with 4 of 'em...

So are mine, to include the P.E.. I've been driving it pretty regular, to include the snow. (no salt!) I just got my MK IV Spit on the road. It has some issues (suspension), but shinglefark is it fun to drive! Wanna buy some body panels? I'll have a truck headin' your way with some rust-free Colorado/New-Mexico gold...
