saw in salvage yard yesterday

Saw this in a salvage yard yesterday in southwestern Wisconsin. Took the photo but have no other information.

I have no knowledge of these cars but it looked interesting. If anyone might want to know where it is PM me and I will let you know. A lot of idle curiosity probably would not help an eventual buyer just because of the nature of the yard owner. Let's just say, it was an interesting afternoon.

I guess it need to make up its mind if it's a Sunbeam or a Hillman!

They were a rear-engined competitor of the Mini, but never achieved anything like the success. They had a nice little OHC all-alloy engine based on the design of the Coventry Climax engine. There were Hillman, Sunbeam and Singer variants. My son had a Sunbeam Sport which had a twin-carb engine.

I just wrote on the other thread that the local veteran car club just did a feature on exactly this type car, if you can deal with the nordic language.

I hope also that it is salvaged from certain death where it is. I'm afraid that the breakers in southern Wisconsin may not appreciate those furen cars. (not prejudice, just that my uncle lives in Lake Mills and he's into Mercedes and Citroen)

Ah, well now Rosalind, I'd be tempted to agree with him if I hadn't lived abroad for many years, and learned that cars were sold with different names overseas.

The front of the trunk says Sunbeam, windshield says Hillman. I'm no expert though.

The problem with many salvage yards is they won't sell whole cars. Hopefully, this one will since they is little chance they will be able to sell parts off this car.

Hi Rosalind,

Sorry to say, but your husband has been misinformed on that one. Sunbeam-badged Imps were available in both sedan and coupe body styles.

https://www.imps4ever.info/family/index.html

All Imps sold new by the factory in the USA were badged Sunbeam.

In the UK, Sunbeam branding was reserved for the higher performance models, but in export markets it was a case of anything goes.
