Round Britain Reliability Run

I thought that you guys may like to see what some mad Triumph folk get up to every second year here in the UK. 2,000 miles in 48 hours from London to John O'Groates (the most north-easterly part of Scotland) to Lands End (the most south-westerly part of England) and back to London. 116 cars set off on Friday at 5pm and at 3 in the morning I saw them when I was marshaling at the Edinburgh stop. I was exhausted when I got to bed at 5am, but the crews still had another day and a half of non-stop driving ahead of them!

Is that a Triumph Acclaim (jacked up)in the last picture?
Doesn't seem to fit in with the "real" British iron.

Yes, that is a fuel-injected TR5.
The modern one is an Acclaim. We don't really count it as a proper Triumph, but they can be picked up for a few hundred pounds and were usually bought by old folk, so are low mileage. I think they were sold as Honda Ballades elsewhere.
There were also a few other Triumphs that you don't see many of in the USA. Toledos, Dolomites, 1300 front-wheel-drives and a Standard 10 pick-up.
A lot of people use 2000 and 2.5PI saloons so that a third driver can sleep in the back.
There is a Triumph Courier in there somewhere - a Herald van and yes, Herald Estates are cool. I sold mine last year, but would love to pick up another one.
I didn't manage to get as many pictures as I would have liked as I was kept too busy trying to organise the parking!

I forgot to say that someone from the USA brought his GT6 over for the event. He has completed previously in that car. Sadly, this year, he crashed the car quite badly just before the Scottish border. Luckily he is OK, but the car needs a lot of work to make it road-worthy again.

Nick, thanks so much for posting the photos and commentary. It goes without saying that most of us over here on the other side of the pond would give our eye teeth to participate in that event.

How much fun can an LBC enthusiast have? Looks like tons of fun.

Cheers, keep us informed of UK LBC happenings.

 not sure what a rental company would think about that. There are a few options, ship your car over for the run, get someone in the UK to buy and store a car for you or find someone who wants a co-driver for the event. The next run should be October 2012, so there is a bit of time to get it sorted out.

Club Triumph also does a 10 Country Run over a three day period, I believe on the alternating years of the RBRR. That would be a hoot too!.
