Hi folks, I am visiting San Francisco at the end of September till mid October, going to Lake Tahoe, and touring down to San Diego. What Petrolhead musts are there to see ? Last time I went to Laguna Seca, which was fantastic.
Thanks in advance

There's another (in)famous "ranch" in those parts, but you might want to avoid that one!

San Diego has the perfect climate........ You'll certainly be impressed by that. It's also quite expensive by comparison, but you won't be there for too long, so not an issue.

Might I suggest that you visit the Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado island? That's where the film "Some Like It Hot" (Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis) was filmed and it's a wonderful building. The open courtyard in the centre has a gorgeous tree (red blossoms, no idea what it is) that is its focal point and there are several eating places there that serve great food if you fell like splurging on a meal. There's also the San Diego Zoo which is well worth a visit, and the aerospace museum. The museum has an SR-71 Blackbird out front and its contents are definitely worth the price of admission.

There are a tremendous amount of car-related activities in Southern California, should you make it down this way. No matter where on the California coast you are, Pacific Coast highway is a must, as it is one of the premier drives on the planet.
