I've got that Buick hood removed from my Sprite.

Finally.

I suppose this isn’t too bad for a rattle can paint job.
This hood was rusty, pitted. Lots of wire wheel work, lots of sanding. Some glazing compound to fill the pits and lots of filler primer.

Rust killer then primer, then sanding, then primer, then glazing compound then sanding then primer... (rinse & repeat about 8 times).

Then about 6 layers of acrylic lacquer paint in the “Flash Red” color.

After that I used a container of ‘polishing compound’ and the electric buffer, then a couple coats of wax.

At least I got that Buick hood off the car!

I have a question about removal / re-installation of bonnet lock.
In this picture it's #30 - #34.
On my old hood I loosened the nut near the top and the pin now moves in & out like it has a head on the other side (or maybe another nut).
I assumed these screwed in to a captive nut in the hood, maybe that's normal and whoever fabricated the Buick hood did something different?
What's the usual method of removal?

Rick,

How will we know that it's your car in the pictures -

I know, my oldest daughter is really mad - she thought that T-Bird look was pretty cool...

Now - what about removal of the locking post springy thing?

It screws into a captive nut in the hood. The nut and washer, 32 and 31 screw onto the shaft 30 first to lock it snug when you tighten it - does that make sense?

Yes - in that case the one I'm trying to remove is not removable. The captive nut has broken loose.
I'll get one from one of my other (3) hoods.

Oh - the shade is very kind to my paint job...

Bill, my paint didn't lay on as smooth as yours (on your hood anyway).
I may have to get more aggressive with the electric buffer.
