TR6 Has anyone made a custom TR6 exhaust?

We were looking into making an exhaust for the beater car, since it has none.

What muffler would you guys reccomend? Something with a deep throaty sond that isn't too loud would be IDEAL.

We decided to go with 2.25 inch pipe from the header back and then into the muffler which is where we are stuck at right now, we don't know what to use.

Help would be great.

If you guys have ever wondered "What would it sound like if"

Let me know, I will try it...

if I don't like it I guess I'll rip it off and start again.

My first suggestion would be a 24" glass pack. That might be a little too loud though.

On a similar note, has anyone made their own headers? I'm drawing up a flange in CADX11 (my roommate's father's software) but if someone has one in AutoCAD or other CAD program already it would be awesome.

Personally I like the sound of the stock TR6 exhaust on our 69, but that's just me. On the TVR I'm using 3" oval tubing and a Spintech Cruiser series muffler because of concerns about ground clearance.

My GT6 has a "custom" exhaust using a glasspack mid-way down and a small turbo muffler at the rear. I can't help with the brands because the system was put on by a muffler shop many moons ago. Very sporty sounding but not horribly loud. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Hello Hayfever,
I have made my own exhaust amnifold, what you call 'headers'.
The flanges are simple, just copy the manifold gasket for dimension and shape. Mine runs 6 into 3 into 1 which is a good configuration for the Triumph six engine. Use 20" primaries and endevour to keep them all equal in length.

I have built several headers before, and they are very simple as Alec said. Why are you using a CAD program to design one?

I'm using a CAD program to draw up the flange to the head to send to the laser shop for cutting. What did you do for the flange if you didn't CNC it?

I use a cutting torch to cut the basic shape, and the exahust holes. Then I use a die grinder to clean it up nicely, and my drill press to make all bolt holes. Easy as pie as they would say.

Ah. I have a couple other flanges that I'm sending to the laser shop (making flanges for the oval exhaust tubing and for a 60mm Mustang throttlebody for the EFI) so I figured I'd just have them cut this one too.

I think I finished it, just need to get my PI manifolds back from the machine shop and print the drawing on paper to make sure there are no clearance problems. The holes all line up with the gasket for the first 11".

It might sound odd but my tr4 uses 2 28In thrush 2In ID glasspacks welded end to end. This gave it the most excellent note of several combos we tried out. Single glasspacks will set your ears ringing at certain RPM's where the note sets up a resonance inside the car. I know that subwoofers cause brain damage(judging by the fools who have them)so try to avoid this in an exhaust system...

Flowmaster makes a variety of mufflers that would fill the bill. My GT6 just uses the center muffler, and a megaphone at the back.
