TR 3 question

Hi folks-- getting my car closer to paint but am puzzled as to how the leather/vinyl trim piece arching up from the rear of the door jam to the top/front of the rear fender comes off. It's about 12 inches long and unlike the other cockpit trim pieces, has no visible screws. Don't want to just force it if there's some trick.

Thanks!

ISTR it is only held by the screws that hold the dogleg panel in place... but once they are out it is still a real snug fit.

You might try putting a block of wood against the inside edge of the piece and gently tapping (up) on it with a hammer -- see if it budges.

This is an interesting piece to recover as it has compound curves -- sort of a 3-handed operation with water, heat, glue and lots of grunting and swearing. I made a sort of vise-mounted jig to hold the metal in place while I tugged and stretched the leather into position.

What an understatement! When I did mine, it finally came out looking somewhat presentable. Over time, it has stretched at the bottom, just before it makes that compound curve upwards. Now it's all bunched up, and has to be redone. Not a fun job!

(Geo - want to do mine for me? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif)

Wouldn't want to deprive you of the fun. Here's the jig I made. The metal cap piece is held in place with small nails thru the existing holes used for the dogleg panel screws.

dogleg2

Soaked the leather in warm water for quite awhile, also used a heat gun very gently to make it more pliable.

Hey Geo-- What a great help! Tips and pics to boot! I wasn't sure people would even understand what part I was talking about.
A jig is a good idea-- that rascal is a weird shape--no wonder I've seen so many with wrinkles.

YES - Thanks! I plan to redo mine over the winter, along with a few other items that I wasn't initially happy with. This will come in handy.
