SU jets now centered

I just finished machining a jet centering tool rod and it works great. Just loosened the jet locking nut and ran my tool through the dome and kept pulling it up and down as I snugged the nut. The piston now drops with a very definite clunk when I use the lift pin. Many thanks for the helpful suggestions.

I can get a photo later. It is simply a piece of round stock that is very slightly under a half inch. It needs to fit into the dome where the shaft of the piston would be so I took a couple of thou off it so it will just slide into the tube. The business end is turned down to 0.085 inches or the size of the top end of the needle. That end is about three quarters of an inch long but that is strictly a random length. To use it just secure the dome and run the tool down through the top and into the jet. With the dome in place the needle will be perfectly alined with the center of the piston. I couldn't believe how easy it was to use.

I don't have any more of the round stock on hand but if there were others interested I could order some steel and make them up. Mine is brass because that is what I had but I think 12L14 steel would be a better choice.

I supose another tool is good, but then I told you how to do it with the piston you have.
