Daimler Ferret Scout Car, radiator cap

An Uncle, actually the one who first got me into British cars, has a late 60's Daimler Ferret Scout Car that will soon need a coolant tank cap. The current one weeps. None of the usual sources here (as if there are many usual sources for these) have one in stock. The alternative is to order one from the UK, big pounds and shipping. I offered to help him source one by searching and doing some posting.

Its a long shot but I'll throw this out there. PM me if you have any leads, thoughts on substitutions, moral support, etc.

What a great British "car" this is.

Not sure of the design, size and shape, but:

If this is a fairly standard design (and that is NOT normal "brit"), the cover and gasket can often be changed out on the old cap if the spring and upper is still good.

I have made 4 and 7 pound coolant recover caps using original caps that way by swapping the plate and washer for one with the recovery pop valve.

The Canadian army used these between around 1954 until 1981. Maybe worth searching for spares north of the border... According to Wikipedia some Commonwealth countries still have them in service! It used the Rolls Royce B60 6-cylinder engine, so that might be worth exploring in case the rediator is the same....

Try Googling Colin Stevens - he just wrote the book on them. You may very well have to go to Britain for one unless there is a similar vehicle using that cap
