Thread: Fender removal

Discuss the Austin Healey Sprite and the MG Midget. Two different but similar cars sometimes referred to collectively as the Spridget.

    Fender removal

How hard is it to remove the front fenders (not bumpers)?

I want to check for latent rust on my MkIII Sprite which was an older restoration done before I bought the car. I assume I remove the headlight and directionals and bolts along the side of the engine compartment, but beyond that I am stumped.

there are probably a couple of bolts (at least one) under the cowl accessed from the engine bay.
also inside the outer kick panel accessed from the passenger compartment.
and some down low (below the headlight) near the front valence.

The lights can stay on the fender.
4 bolts from inside the car behind the interior panel, so remove the glove box too.
3 on top of the fender in the drip channel, 2 of them down near the front, 1 up near the cowl.
1 hidden under the fender at the cowl, look down in there and you will see it.
This is the one that gets you every time.
And 3 or 4 bolts holding the fender to the front apron you can get to from under the car.
At least 11 fasteners, but don't hold me to that number.
