I'm going to assume that at least some people are familiar with the late-1970's TVR 5000M, a rather special car sold up here in Canada... I just saw an example of one of the original 5000M's plus one cloned version (a customer car that was modified).

For many years John Wadman was the importer of TVR's into Canada, based out of Toronto, in the late-1970's he came up with the idea of stuffing a V8 into the current run of TVR's. He imported cars from England as bare shells and chassis and did the conversion at his shop, completing seven or eight examples. These cars were given brand new VIN's and sold as the TVR 5000M, only to Canadian customers.
Having seen these cars, a number of people brought their TVR's to John asking him to do a similar conversion, thus he also completed some 5000M clones.
One of these cars is the real deal and one is a clone, I forget which is which.
On a secondary note, John continued importing TVR's into Canada right up to 1986, after official sales ceased in the United States. Then in 1990/91 John brought in some Griffith's to the Canadian market, selling a small number of them before gov't regulations choked him off. I did see one of these cars once when I lived in Ontario back in 2002. And John is still actively involved with TVR and fellow TVR enthusiasts across Canada up to the present.</span>
