My wife took these pictures in Ireland a couple years ago.

The car is a Datsun; that's all I know. At one point, she found some info about it on the web, but she has long since forgotten the model name and everything else.

The "trunk" seems to hinge from the rear, making me think it might be a kind of rumbleseat. Also, it looks like the top might open to make it a convertible, of sorts. It's right-hand drive, so it seems possible that Japanese models were simply imported into the UK and Ireland.

If anyone can give me any info on these, I'd appreciate it. I think they are very cool, and if I could find one...well, you know the rest!

I was going to mention this, but I didn't know if the Sarah Jane Adventures were known in the US, or even if you've been getting the renewed Doctor Who at all.

Doug: are you referring to "Bessie" driven by Jon Pertwee when he played the Doctor in about 1972-3? That was a commercially-available kit, built on a Ford E93A Anglia chassis.

By the way: Irish licence plates include the year, so the 91 at the beginning of the number will be the correct age of the car at the start of this thread.

Yes, many of these interesting little cars are effectively micro cars with very small engines, and I understand that most of them are automatic, as a standard transmission is considered undesirable in Japan, I think because of the tight driving conditions in crowded cities there...

We saw one in London in '05, near the Tower. Neat enough looking little car.

And Right Hand Drive too!! Now I want one! It's 19 years old - does that qualify as "old"?

Interior looks great! those toggle switches on the right would never fly here in the US. "Knee busters" in an accident. not allowed! But I think they look cool!
