We're STILL putting the TR3 back together. It appears that somewhere in '59 the switch for the dash lights changed to one that could dim. If this is the case, how do I find out at what production # the change took place? If wrong, please let me know. Thanks

Rusty - per the Piggott (p.46), the dimmable (rheostat) dash light started showing up around TS43000.

Hope this helps.

Edit: p. 121, he says "TS43000 (approx) Feb 59 - panel light dimming rheostat appears on some cars - this item eventually became standard at TS60001."

OTOH, TS47905 (built 4/15/59) does not have the rheostat -- so quite possibly (as Piggott suggests) this was an on & off thing for awhile.

Subject line reminds me of a favorite old song from Meatloaf -- even my wife manages to laugh when she hears that one.

One way to tell which your car had is to look at the holes in the instrument panel. On panels for the rheostat, the center hole second from the top is larger than the top hole, because the rheostat requires a larger hole than the switch.

For the record: TS51006 -- no dimmer on the dash lights.
