Orval's Used Cars

Just got back from 4 weeks in Colorful Colorado. The Mountains & Aspen were grand but the automotive highlight was Orval's Used Cars in Delta.

My wife thought that International truck would make a fine car hauler and the Corvair rampside just the thing for chasing parts.

Cars were in 'ready for restoration' condition and prices low. Guess I'm lucky we don't have a place like this in my town.

"Guess I'm lucky we don't have a place like this in my town."

That also goes for me, and just about anyone else on this forum I should think.....and I'm not even into these types of car.

All right, Orval! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

That's better than a museum. Wish there were more of those around.

I kinda like the Chevy (?) fastback that's parked on one of the old haulers. I sorta side with Ed, in that I think that car would make a neat mild custom, with reversed wheels, two tone paint (blue and bluer), and some of the chrome removed. Nothing too fancy or difficult to undo. But then again I am far from a purist a lot of the time!

Delta is just over two hours from me, and I drive through there about once a month on business. The good thing is that in our dry climate the rust on these golden oldies is minimal, the bad thing is that I've never seen anything but Detroit iron on Orval's lot.

Now I wish I had stoped, We drove past this little jem last month on our way home from Ouray,CO. If I remember correct, The newes car I saw was about a early-mid 60's Chevy/Pontiac.
Way cool!

My wife was driving so we were sure to stop... she did a fast U-turn when she saw the lot. You can probably tell by the pics that she likes the old American iron (though her personal preference is Studebakers).

There's a '49 Studebaker pickup here I'd love to get hold of. Don't know anything about it, but believe they're asking 2K for it.

My sister lived in Delta; ran a photo shop. Maybe Orval's is the reason she had a 1955 Chevy four door sedan. I wonder how long he's been in business? I agree the International would be a good car hauler. T.T.

As we were coming into the town we twice saw teenagers driving old unrestored classics. Then we saw Orval's.

I think he is on a one-man mission to save these cars... and turn Delta into 'Little Havana'.

When I was in High School, in Denver, there was a place that was primarily older British cars (Jags, TRs, MGs, Lotus) called "Hack's Little Lot" on Broadway. I used to love window shopping there in my spare time.

Basil,

Although a blast to drive by, Hack's is long gone. Now there is a place farther south on Broadway called "Oldies But Goodies." I have seen '60s Corvettes, a 1957 Chevy convertible, a number of older Porsches, etc., but very few LBCs at the lot. When "Corvettes Only" replaced "Jaguars Only" on West Hampden a few years ago, we lost the only remaining used LBC dealer in town. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif

I've noted a rather sad thing while rummaging around junk yards in my area recently. They all have "dead" Triumphs in them! Old, rusted out body shells, mostly Spitfires.

One junkyard about 30 miles south of here, literally in the middle of nowhere, has 4 GT6s and several Spits in it!

It's a sad sight for a Triumph lover. Just to think they were shiny and new one day many moons ago, soon, they will be gone forever.

Sorry for the goofy post, but such sights remind me that our restored LBCs are truly becoming more rare by the moment.

All the more reason to keep 'em on the road, IMHO! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Chevy fastback (on the hauler William mentioned) is a 1948 Chevy Fleetwood. 2dr, 6cyl,3spd on column. It had "armstrong" shocks much like my Healy, and the engine used a dipper system instead of an oilpump. The wheels used a six lug system. This was my first car in High School. The paint job was two tone-Lt blue body, Dk blue fenders and top, which looks like the car in the photo!
