The Clutch (no overdrive)in my 72 TR6 "chatters" in 3rd and 4th gear upon acceleration and the shift lever does vibrate at those times. Any ideas as to what is the cause and fix? Thanks.

As in "chatters" when just engaging? IOW, you don't have a continuous vibration in those gears, rather just on first engagement as the clutch is released?

You can buy a kit to rebuild the gear lever linkage which should stop the lever rattling. Not sure about your other clatter without hearing it.
One thing I discovered when I was trying to get the timing right on my TR3 was that when the engine was pinging under load the gear lever clattered more. May need to check your ignition timing.

My 73 TR6 does the same under heavy acceleration.
I thought it was a chipped gear tooth but it's been doing it for a long time now, I don't think that's the problem.
I remember reading that there is a spring loaded ball detent in the gearshift lever that is supposed to stop that vibration; I'm thinking that it's either quit working or someboddy forgot to put it in after some service.
Either way I don't worry about it any more.

Thanks for the response. The chatter does not occur upon engagement, but rather once a certain speed is achieved. In 4th that speed is approximately 60 mph, in 3rd is it around 50 or so. If I accelerate slowing to these speeds, the chatter is almost nonexistent. ?

So it's not a clutch issue... check the U-joints.
