Got a Dan Dare hardtop today for my Sprite

I picked up a nice Dan Dare hardtop today for my MK2 Sprite from a fellow member of the N.O.S.H.I.T.

It lacks rubber around the back and if there's supposed to be rubber around the side curtain area that's missing also.

Can a new rear window also be gotten?
What about hardware to fasten it to the car? It has brackets but I'm not sure how they would attach.

I've heard the company that made these is still in business, is that true? Where would I find them?

What? You dare tell us about it without a photo?

It was rainy when I got it home.
I put it on and then went across the street to get a piece of that foam pipe insulator stuff that's round & 6 feet long and split down the side. It fit around the rear cockpit area perfectly. Needless to say too wet out to take any pictures today, maybe we will get a little break tomorrow and then I'll take a few pics - I Promise!!

It's this kind (not nearly this nice):

If it is plexiglass, there is a company in New Orleans called "Cadillac PLastics" that may be able to help you out.

I still think that flare ridge is begging for a third brake light. Don't they have them now that are wireless? Like this helmet thing? I'm just saying......

Ha!!

Tony,
It is very light weight, very easily put on by one person.

Wish mine looked like the one in the picture.
There's room for improvement...

I can hardly believe that someone would put holes in it just to add a 3rd brake light!!!

At the time the discussions about the effectiveness of a 3rd brake light, Joan Claybrook (at the time the head of the office in charge of such things) swore that it would prevent thousands (I can't remember the exact figures cited) of accidents and thus--lives--would be saved if only the manufacturers were REQUIRED to install said third brake light in all automobiles, at "minimal" cost to the manufacturers. Statistics proved her WRONG. the actual figure was closer to 600. Hundreds of thousands of cars with these things and 600 accidents prevented? Hardly cost effective unless one believes that one accident is one too many. .....

OOPS... forgive the rant....

anyway my 2¢

Heck - keep it under cover and don't drive it...

No that doesn't prevent accidents - the father of my son's friend backed into my Sprite while we were away from home camping - it was kind of fun ribbing the kid about it.

Wireless Brake Light

I bought one for Ms Triss - haven't installed it yet. the nice thing for a hardtop is it's wireless, so no hassles with connecting/ disconnecting. If you want measurements or even for me to buy & ship you one - I think I paid $4.00 - let me know.

I think you could even use some sort of adhesive for the wireless thing. Our cars are small and low and well, I think it could help and not look too out of place but to each their own. They must be battery powered then? No idea, just a thought.

While it's tempting I just don't think I could bring myself to do it.
No computers in the car, that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

I drive mine every day; after one particular 'incident' a couple months back, I installed one:

Does it make a difference? Don't know. No one's hit me, anyway. Knock on wood.

I agree. I'll be installing one but will use a flip down LED strip on the roll bar and run wiring in tubing.
