Ebay Strikes again, me this time

Ok, ok we all know buying a car on ebay is not a good idea, but I did it. I am now the new owner of a 66 spitfire. The guy took it on a trade, it ran and drove great when he got it. It has since then sat in storage for a year and a half. I talked to him on the phone he said the windshield is out of it, but it is in good shape body wise and interior wise. As for the engine I don't expect any serious work, just rebuilding the carb, possibly replacing the fuel pump, and draining the tank. Anyway anyone want t buy a 79 1500 spitfire? I was looking at this car, but its too far away for me. Also, that's not the correct engine and the front bumper looks funky.

Those early Spitfires are nice. I was looking for one (either an Mk I or II), but there just aren't many of them around for sale in good shape. I ended up with a new Bugeye instead.

Good luck with your car. Based on the eBay listing, I'd say you got a good deal.

Doesn't look too bad Walt,

Those early Spitfire's are nice and also desireable I believe too (even if it isn't the right engine).

Reminds me of a conversation 78Z and myself had with a guy at one of our Alberta automotive flea markets this past spring... Some small-town farmer heard us talking British cars and started talking to us, from what we could gather he had found an early Triumph Spitfire in the middle of nowhere (a small town in Saskatchewan, forget which one) and he was thinking of buying it, but he had no idea about British cars at all... did mention about British Car Forum to him, wonder if he did buy it? I have now way to even contact the guy anyway.

Thanks guys. Bill, I noticed that it doesn't have the 1296 also, but I have a friend in town who has one in a box in the back of his store I can have, used to go with his 66 spit which is now a rusted out pos.

Nothing is wrong with it, aside from the fact that I pulled the engine awhile back to do some work.

Walter,

I love it. I purchased the 1975 XJ6C on ebay about a year ago. I have no regrets in having done so. Enjoy your new Spitfire and keep me posted on the progress. Come to think of it, I bought the '57 TR3 on ebay as well, and still haven't picked it up! It's only a chassis with minimal body panels, but it was a good buy... couldn't resist.

Hey guys thanks for the support. I will probably be getting it sometime this week. I was thinking of driving up there and driving it back myself, but the guy who has it told me he knows a guy who hauls cars for a living who may be down here and if so would haul it for about $80, which is just about $10 dollars more than what gas up there and back would probably be. I'll let you know when I get it.

ok I did it also. I purchased another tr7 off ebay from a guy in Missouri. Fly out next weekend to drive home. Another cross country trip in a tr7. I figured out how to arrange the pillows and cooler to sleep (relatively) comfortably in the car.I'll probably only carry my towing card and ham radio. this time i bought a '76 fhc to accompany my '81 dhc.
