Hello fellow Triumphers,

I have a 57 TR-3 smallmouth which should have the two side latches with the middle key lock. I have a boot which is from a later car, but I also have a correct boot that is pretty rusted, however it does have the side latches that I could remove and weld to my newr boot. Is the older and newer boot dimensionally the same? If so I will drill out the newer boot and convert it.

Not positive, but I think they are the same.

Does your newer boot have the same style of bracing underneath, or is it the later style tube bracing? If its later style you may want to hunt for an earlier version because it will be a better substitute.

As long as it's the earlier type (pre TS60000) lid without the raised hinge plinths, it should convert to a TR3 configured lid OK.

The earlier TR3A type lid has welded in bracing.

You'll also have to weld up the two mount holes where the later handle escutcheon fixed to the boot lid. And check if the TR2/3 key only lock uses the same diameter hole as the TR3A handle lock.

Underneath you don't need the bridging bracket that houses the TR3A lock striker.

I have a correct 57 TR3, that has a tr3a boot. It kinda happend by accident, that I ended up with a perfect 59 lid, while my original was rusty and warped.
I kept the handled lid and I can't tell you how wonderfull it is to be able to open it with one hand.
