TR4/4A Toyota brake conversion for TR3 or TR4a

So I did the conversion on the '74 TR6 and it was pretty easy except for one of the calipers needing a bit of attention to work with Art Lipps hard lines (not a problem with Art's stuff - he's great).

Has anyone done this conversion with a TR3 or TR4?

Would the same full dress kit from Rock work?

A-1 CARDONE Part # 17819 and 17818
{[Caliper w/Installation Hardware & Pad] Remanufactured}

(not much TR4 traffic here recently - come on guys!)

Tom-

The lack of TR4 traffic just means anyone who can drive them, is doing just that! Too hot for me right now in Houston though.

I think maybe Larry did the conversion on his 4 - maybe he'll swoop in and give a good how-to. I believe the bolt in aspects are the same, 3 or 4 - perhaps on an early 3 you might get issues with rotor size. Main issue is line hookup, TR4's don't have that short hard line, but I think with the conversion adding the lines and brackets helps with the hookup. Not sure if Art makes them for a TR4.

I like that explanation Randy!

Thanks - hopefully someone will jump in who has done this.

How is the TR3 coming along?

I should better respond in your other thread on 'things I'm putting off' - the car is still staring at me in the garage. Kind of got sidelined as I finally changed out the timing chain on the TR4 - broken tensioner was found so I'm happy.

Hope to get some quality wrenching time in the next couple of months on the 3A - probably during the VTR/Triumphest week as it looks like we are not going to attend.

I did the Toyota brake conversion on my TR3. I bought some of the kit contents from Dr. Marty...the bling drilled rotors, the "metric" shouldered bolts and the adaptor line from the caliper to the flex line.

Since I work for an automotive remanufacturer, I was able to get the calipers right off the shelf...a perk. The bracket holding the caliper brake line to the flex line I made in the garage. And, you also need the caliper bracket from a TR6, as the bracket for the TR3 will position the caliper too close to fit over the rotor. That's why the kits aren't offered for the TR3. The pics show the assembled caliper, the brake line bracket I made, and the two different caliper brackets. The one on the left is the TR6 bracket I used, and the one on the right is the original TR3 bracket.

Do you have contact info for Art Lipp's website? www.trparts.com takes me to a go-kart site.

And yes, I've been driving the 4A as much as possible, too, but I have several projects waiting to happen.

You can email Art from that website - he'll get back to you. The kart business through me off but it's his. Art's been great!

If that doesn't work let me know and I'll PM you his email.
