Heater Delete

I removed my heater this weekend.

Now I have hot air coming in from the engine bay (seems like those MG engineers knew what they were doing after all - lol).

So for fellow deleters, how did you cover up the two gaping holes after the deletion?

Sheet metal cover plates with foam or thin rubber gaskets so you can undelete.

Ditto on the sheet metal. Easy to make yourself....I cannot imagine this piece being available commercially.

Not commercially available...I just cut a piece of thin aluminum & pop rivet it in place using the gasket underneath...

You could take the gasket & make a pattern & use the original screw holes to hold it in place.

I used some sheet metal to cover the hole in the engine bay, and then used some more to cover up the holes in the interior. I used the original screw holes to make the mod reversible.

On my MK1 I left the two air flaps on either side of the tunnel in place, I just closed them up.

I used some POR-15 on the underside of the sheet metal to keep things from getting any rustier.

Blanking plates are commercially availible for these holes in Oz ,but it would be an easy DIY. Bob

I just removed my heater box the other day. I'm going to fabricate a plate as well and spray with some sound deadening coating also was going to put some heat and sound insulation inside the empty space where the heat enters the car.
