    Adjusting valves on a TR-4

Have a '64 TR-4 with 50,000 miles and am 5000 miles off an engine rebuild (I did not do the rebuild). I attempted to adjust the valves, cold, took out the plugs, put trans in neutral, took off fan belt and could not turn the engine over by hand. Blipped the starter and it rotated ok. What is giving me all the resistance?

No idea -- even a tight engine (after a rebuild) should be able to be turned.

FWIW. for valve adjustment I just put it in 4th and push on the left front tire to roll the car a bit and turn the engine. Less chance of scraping my knuckles on the radiator plus pushing on a tire gives you a 2:1 mechanical advantage.

Just curious, how have you been trying to turn the engine over by hand?

I put a monkey wrench on the fan hub, but that is almost impossible to turn.
