I am curious as to the story behind the ignition switch rewiring.
Please go into explanation in depth. Wanna see if this will go to the problem of unexpected car dying, etc...
A long but funny story:
DPO Pedro told us a ton of lies but one single truth.
DPO Pedro told us- " I have to be honest with you, the ingnition
switch needs to be replaced. Other than the ignition switch, this
car has been restored to almost 100% showroom condition"
So, since I knew zip about auto mchanics, I went on-line Google search
and found VB- ordered an ignition switch. The next day the radiator blew
up and I ordered a new one plus hoses from VB.
The VB ignition switch arrived crushed in pieces in it's original factory box.
I called VB who informed my I'd have to pay shipping both ways for a replacement.
They charge mega-$$$$ for shipping.
So I googled again and found The Roadster factory. Ordered another ignition switch
with the same results. Busted up junk in a factory box. Same deal- I pay shipping
both ways and they'll replace it.
I took the busted up switch to our local locksmith to see what he could make of it.
Poor man spent almost an hour trying to make the pieces into a switch. He asked
only $20 for labor and sent me to a parts store to purchase ( I think) a General Motors
ignition switch. $8 or $9 bucks as I recall.
It worked great and still functions well and starts my car.
I truly wish that all that was wrong with 1969ish TR6 was the ignition switch
as claimed by PDO Pedro.
So there is the ignition switch story- BTW- afterward I installed a full car,
Dan Masters PowerBlock wire harness that takes the load off the ignition switch.
So a functional new ignition switch cost me about $250 including shipping.
PS: You don't want to know what the windshield wiper switch cost me!!
