How to fit stretch CV boots?

I need to replace my nearside CV boot (both actually) on Talbot Horizon.

The CV boots i have been asked to order for my mechanic are ....

I have heard this can be done without taking the drive-shaft out. Does
anybody know how the stretch ones are fitted, or is it the split ones that
can only be fitted without the drive-shaft removed???

The driveshaft still has to be removed from the hub and after the old boot is cut off the "stretch" boot is either put on a machine with 6 fingers that open up stretching the boot enough to pass over the CV joint and on to the driveshaft,or a type of special funnel is used ,placed over the joint and the boot(having been turned inside out) is manually pulled along it and over the joint,both funnel and boot have to be really well coated with oil,very messyand there is a "knack"to doing it,if you don't do it in one hit the boot tends to stick on the funnel and if it is not gripped right- the boot tends to break.At first it seems impossible that the small opening will stretch enough to go over the CV joint -but amazingly they do without breaking.The Cv joint still should be thoroughly cleaned and repacked with the special grease,I would still remove the whole driveshaft to do it as the extra time it takes to pull the shaft isn't that much and the joint can be cleaned easier .

Split ones can be fitted without taking the shaft out - whether you can get them fo a Horizon is another question.

Cut the old one off, put the new one over, superglue it shut and Robert's your cousin's father.
