Wow !! Another Triumph in Bayamon, PR !!

I'm leaving the marina this morning and spot a squat,
dull yellow convertible coming toward me. I thought
it might be one of those car/boats from the 1960's.

I looked in my rearview mirror as we passed. It had
a Triumph chrome signia on the tail end. I quickly
spun 180* and two miles later cought up with it.
It is a Triumph Herald 1967?

Nice guy named Jorge. He bought it 2 weeks ago from
the other side of the island. He's going to restore it.
We swapped business cards and I wrote down the forum web
address for him. Jorge lives near me.

So Crypty has a neighbor.

Probably, the main selling point is it has original paint.

Man, I can just see that little car setup real nice with all the panels fixed, painted in the current color but flattened off for a primer look.
No roof. Some sort of waterproof seat covers in matching lemon sherbert and white.
Full length ice box down the centre from front to back to keep the refreshments coooooool!
Whitewalls and original wheel caps. Lowered to about the same height as the photos show.
Just Cruising................

It may be that low due to the 600 pounds of extra cargo! :jester:

Seriously a neat find! Looks amazingly intact as far as originality goes.

For whatever it's worth (and it's worth it to me! :G), this is actually quite a rare car. It's one of just over 400 Herald 13/60 models built to US specification for the 1969 model year, and all of them were assembled in Belgium for the Puerto Rico market! By the way, this car is actually a sedan; hopefully the roof still exists and can be bolted back on. From pictures I'd been sent earlier this year, it does appear to still be mostly original, down to its original side reflectors and unique-to-selected-export-markets front side lamp arrangement...AND it's the only version of Herald 13/60 (to my knowledge) that came from the factory with a full Spitfire-spec. 1296cc engine, complete with dual SU carbs. Likely that is simply because that engine would've been emissions-certified for the US market. No other version of that engine was certified for the US at the time.

I've information on this and other cars in this unique series on my web site for those who might be interested.

And Dale, I'd greatly welcome communication with the new owner! (I'd been hoping all year to hit the lottery and then be able to fly to PR, visit Dale, and then arrange to buy this car and have it shipped back up to NY; sadly, that hasn't happened.)

Those are the original wheel caps. I had been wondering what Whitewalls would look like on the Herald.
they are fun for just cruising around, but with an open top, they get a bit tiring on the highway especially if you are sitting in the back seat!

Hi There 70herald,

If you look at the pics; There are narrow white walls on the car!

A friend of mine has one here in PA & he has the wide whites on it & really looks nostalgic (2-1/2" whitewalls):

Andy-

Yes, it has the Spitfire larger engine.
I'll try to get you (and me ) in touch
with Jorge when I return to Puerto Rico
next week.

dale

Perhaps best to check the anti-burst door catches have been fitted before leaning on the doors too much if it was originally a sedan
Absolutely! General wisdom amongst us Herald folk is that while removing the bolt-on roof is fairly easy, the resulting open car does not make for an ideal convertible. At the least, the doors should have those extra anti-burst catches!
