I us picked up an engine (looks like a spitfire engine to me) and was supposedly from a spitfire. The engine code is BE 97948 E which I can't find being a spitfire engine or any other car for tat matter. Anyone know what BE engines were out of?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, kind of new to the whole British car thing and can't seem to find this one on my own.

I found info on a standard being a possible option but didn't think this bugger was that old looking. Guess maybe so.

WE have a winner! BE 97948 E is indeed a 948cc Standard 10 or Triumph 10 single-carb engine. (Note that, unlike DNK, said engine is four years YOUNGER than yours truly...OUCH!) Nice little engines, actually...IF in a Triumph 10 or early Herald. :wink:

Andrew, Thanks for the confirmation on that one. Hmmm well that engine is of no use for me to keep around, would this thing be useful to anyone around here?

Sadly, they're worth little to nothing unless you can find someone with a Triumph 10 or early Herald and who really wants an original-type engine. It's almost certainly not worth shipping any great distance. You might try contacting someone in the Detroit Triumph Sportscar Club as well as offering it on the VTR web site (where they have free online classified ads).

I'd take it, but I'm in Eastern NY (see above re: shipping). :frown:

Thanx for the info. I will be poking around on this engine tonight to look over its condition a little closer after that if it is useable I willtry and find an owner before pursuing other options.
