Every Fall, here in NJ, I go to the national TVR meet called "Out of the Woodwork". Excellent event with lots of TVRs, Griffiths (and another related car-name that I forget at the moment).
One year I met Trevor Wilkenson (he started TVR).
Here's a link to "Woodwork" (The pictures from previous events are worth looking at):

That's the show at Round Valley. I am back in NJ around that time but miss it by a few days. Great looking cars.

It's non-standard with a V8. Vixens had Ford (Cortina etc., Kent) 4-bangers. Griffiths had the V8 and were quite the most diabolical, dangerous vehicle let loose on the roads.

Oh yeah, the "TVR" I couldn't recall is the "Jomar". Here's a page on it:

https://www.tvrna.com/jomar.html

Roger: you're correct...those V8 TVRs are diabolical (but in a good way! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif)
Some early 4 cylinder TVRs also used MGA and MGB engines. TVRs also came with Triumph inline 6s and European Ford V6s.

Coldplugs.....halfway up the page....the picture captioned:

"Also at Thompson in 1955. The headrest can be seen here. There's some pretty exotic cars in the background - a Siata and (maybe) a Bandini."

Yup....it's a Bandini, and if the pic was taken in '55 it would be Hank Rudkin's car....Crosley engine, H-Modified.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if it would have had a Crosley as the original engine? I know Bandini made some interesting hop-up parts for Crosleys (including a twin cam head - a neat trick on an engine with an integral head/block) but assumed they were built with Fiats or something Italian.

I'm not really sure, but I think the small Bandini was offered with a Fiat engine, or without an engine.

They also made a slightly larger (cycle fendered) car with an 1100 Fiat and later, with a 1400 Fiat.....Jim Pauley used to race one in NER SCCA.

Hello,

I just noticed this thread so sorry for my late response. The Bandini Siluro from 1955 you are talking about had a Crosley lower end and a Bandini head. Some of the heads were single cam and others twin cam, depending on the year of manufacture. Bandini also went through design changes to the twin cam head to increase power.

Hope that helps,

TVR V8 Conversions seem to be popular. I used to be in the TVR club, and nearly purchased a 3000M which had been converted from a 2500M using parts from a 3000S which had been converted to a V8. The 2500S being TR6 powered, and the 3000S/3000M being Ford Essex V6 powered in convertable and coupe form respectively. A friend of mine looked at the car for me in Ohio. It wasn't running that day, and I bought something else, I think an Elan +2.

There were often Semi Close Ford Cortina gearboxes and crossflow Ford motors with webers for sale in the newsletter from people who stuffed v8's in their Vixens. I bought a set of Webers and a manifold off of one. An interesting resource for a Cortina and 7 guy.

I really really like the TVR 3000S. I think it is the nicest TVR sold in the US.
